Most people don’t notice pelvic floor changes right away.
You might:
- Think twice before sneezing
- Plan where the nearest bathroom is
- Avoid certain workouts
- Get up more often through the night
- Notice small changes in control or confidence
This isn’t something people typically talk about openely, but it’s incredibly common for both men and women.
“I can finally swing a golf club without peeing my pants.” – Patient X
Like any muscle group, the pelvic floor can weaken.
Pelvic floor strength can change over time due to aging, pregnancy and childbirth, hormonal shifts, lifestyle factors, and a lack of targeted muscle activation. Because these muscles are difficult to isolate, most people don’t train them effectively.
Many people think, “I’ll just do Kegels.” But the reality iis most people don’t perform them correctly, don’t generate enough meaningful contractions, and don’t stay consistent over time. That’s why ongoing exercises matter — especially once the pelvic floor is stronger and you can actually connect to those muscles. When that connection improves, everyday movement, core work, and simple exercises become far more effective at maintaining the strength you paid for.

The Complete Kegel Throne FAQ: Process, Benefits, and Outcomes
What is the Kegel Throne treatment?
The Kegel Throne ( Emsella) is a non-invasive pelvic floor therapy that uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM®) technology to strengthen the muscles that support bladder control, core stability, and pelvic health. During a session, thousands of targeted pelvic floor contractions are stimulated far more than most people can achieve with traditional Kegel exercises alone.
How does the Kegel Throne work?
The chair delivers gentle electromagnetic energy that activates deep pelvic floor muscles. These muscles contract and relax automatically, helping to rebuild strength, improve tone, and enhance neuromuscular control. Over time, this can reduce bladder leakage, improve pelvic stability, and support better overall function.
What conditions can the Kegel Throne help with?
The Kegel Throne is commonly used to help people experiencing:
Stress urinary incontinence (leaks with coughing, sneezing, or exercise)
Urge incontinence and overactive bladder
Pelvic floor weakness after pregnancy or childbirth
Age-related pelvic floor decline
Reduced core strength or pelvic stability
Intimacy-related pelvic floor concerns
It is appropriate for both women and men.
Who is a good candidate for the Kegel Throne?
You may be a great candidate if you:
Experience bladder leaks or urgency
Want to avoid surgery or medication
Have difficulty performing traditional Kegels
Are postpartum or post-menopause
Want a proactive, non-invasive way to improve pelvic health
A consultation with our 25+ year Registered Nurse, trained in HIFEM technology from BTL, will help determine whether this therapy is right for your individual needs.
How do I know if this is right for me?
The best way to find out is to book a consultation 403.789.8296. with our Registered Nurse Sue West or discuss your symptoms, health history, and goals during your HRT Consultation with Nurse Practitioner Tammy Campbell and create a clear plan to help you regain confidence and control.
What does a kegel throne treatment session feel like?
Most patients describe the sensation as a small vibration sensation. You remain fully clothed and comfortable throughout the session. There is no pain, needles, or recovery time.
How long and how many treatments?
Most patients complete a series of 6 sessions ( 28 minutes in length) over 3 weeks (two treatments per week). Some people notice improvement after the first few sessions, while optimal results typically develop after the full treatment plan.
When will I start to see results?
Many patients report noticeable improvement within the first few sessions, some take more than 6 sessions. Results vary based on individual health history and condition severity. It is a muscle so maintenance after is as important as the treatment to maintain strength. ( at home exercises and periodic Keel throne Maintenance sessions in the following year.)
Can this replace pelvic floor physiotherapy?
The Kegel Throne can complement pelvic floor physiotherapy or be used as a stand-alone option. We caution, maintenance after is a vital key to the sustainability of your strength of your pelvic floor. Many patients use it when they struggle to perform effective Kegels on their own or want a faster, more targeted strengthening approach.
Is this treatment covered by insurance?
Coverage varies by provider and plan. Our team is happy to provide documentation and receipts to help you explore reimbursement options.
Is the emsella Kegel Throne Health Canada Approved?
